Working within current regulations
DJC health is expert in helping you to understand how your business can work within all the current legislation and regulations around occupational hygiene. These include the following:
Providing you with assistance for Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments
Training you on the use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), under the EU’s regulations on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
Helping you to understand the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) of classification of substances, set out under Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulations.
Exposure to substances
DJC Health can provide wide-ranging and comprehensive advice on suitable control measures for exposure to a spectrum of hazardous and potentially harmful substances. This includes exposure through a range of means, including inhalation, skin, inadvertent ingestion and the eyes.
Skin protection and hygiene awareness training
One of the core offerings of DJC Health is awareness training and assessments in the areas of skin protection and hygiene awareness, both of which are extremely important in pharmaceutical and healthcare environments. This includes the correct selection of protective gloves, and how to document this in glove plans. We also produce and sell a range of glove usage and removal posters, which can be displayed in the workplace.
Personal protective equipment
The correct selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is vital for both employee health and maintaining product integrity in certain environments.
DJC Health can inspect and evaluate your existing PPE usage, as well as training you and your staff in the correct usage of PPE. Services also cover more technical equipment such as Respiratory Protective Equipment (R.P.E.).
Asbestos management
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK and is a hidden danger in many workplaces. This means it’s absolutely vital that those who may be exposed to asbestos at work know what to do to protect themselves and others around them.
Advice on managing the asbestos risks, auditing and how to maintain an asbestos register within your workplace can be given. However we would refer you to BSEN ISO 17025 accredited BOHS P402 specialists to conduct actual surveys and to HSE licensed contractors for asbestos removals.
Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) management
Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) is part of the hierarchy of control measures under COSHH for controlling workers’ exposure to contamination in the air. However, it is not always as effective as it could be, perhaps because of shortcomings in the system design, or poor maintenance of existing systems. Advice and support is available on choosing and managing your LEV management, to ensure the greatest levels of safety for your workforce.
Legionella management
Outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease hit the headlines from time to time. It’s vital that you minimise the risk of your workers inhaling airborne water droplets containing viable Legionella bacteria, which means special attention must be paid to areas such as cooling towers, hot and cold water outlets, wet air conditioning plants and so on.
DJC Health offers you auditing on managing the Legionella risks in your workplace. However we would refer you to water control specialists to provide comprehensive maintenance and testing of water systems.
Workplace monitoring
Today’s workplaces expose workers to a range of hazards, including the following:
- Exposure to hazardous substances
- Inadequate or incorrect local exhaust ventilation or personal protective equipment
- Thermal stress and discomfort
- Workplace lighting
- Noise
- Microwave leakage.
DJC Health will be providing a workplace monitoring service in the near future. This can help you stay on top of reporting the hazards and risks to you, and will help you select the right course of action.
